The party continues. It's like it never stops. Saturday afternoon was no different. I found myself at the King Street/Night Grooves party along with cyberjamz.com. On arrival I saw Stacy Kidd & finally DJ Pierre who was playing for King St. I stayed for a brief period because I had to find some eats. Jamie 3:26 was on for cyberjamz which was webcasting too.
They have this Gyro shop on 5th & Washington that have pita and gyro sandwiches that were different from the other spots in town. This area of Miami Beach was kind of Ritzy, with a bunch of upscale restaurants that are over-priced with mediocre service. I did manage to find Subway, McDonald's & Burger King on the way. Remember Archer Treachers? Well they have one here, with a Miami Sub included. Mmm, mmm good! It was a bit on the cool side and a brotha was partied out. I rested for a bit, only to go and party some more. I missed the panel at The Wydham with the DJ competition. I plan on making up for it today with the panel on 'Dance Music On The Radio'. You know I have a mouth full to say about that. Chicago radio isn't balanced out with the music. They don't play House music in rotation with Chris Brown and TI, not that I dislike them. As a result, we aren't familiar with the names of our favorite tunes like the hip hop heads are because it isn't played every hour on the hour like the other stuff. We can have "the station for hip hop and r&b" but not one for "House and Disco". Since The Hot Mix 5, Frankie Knuckles and others have lefted FM radio for the clubs and other places, they bullshit on our music. That's okay because we still support this music, rather it is on cd, the internet or in the club. It's us that find a way to keep it going.
By the end of the night I found myself walking through town with George Jackson, John Muhammad and DJ Chris. George and Chris checked out Josh Wink and Boris at this big afternoon party. They said it had to be people in the thousands at this event. I could only imagine. I have had my share of music since this trip anyway. On my way out the other day I heard this cat mixing and cutting up BBD's Poision in the club. I damn near wanted to pay the $20 dollars to hear him play, but I had to get going. Anyway we went to some back yard beach party that Tony Humphries was supposed to be playing. Some dee jay was beating Julien Jabre's 'Swimming Places' along with some other joints I was familiar with. No Tony. We lefted and went to The Shelbourne Hotel again. This time the list included Todd Terry, DJ Sneak, Armand Van Helden, Stretch Armstrong and others. We didn't have the hook up at this party, so we ventured on. We got the scoop on The Masters At Work party and headed that way. Collins ave., Washington ave., and Ocean Dr., looked like a longer version of Rush St. in Chicago with people everywhere. The people in Miami don't think nothing about saying something obscene to someone walking down the street when they are driving by in there cars. The traffic was not moving. Driving was out of the question. A bus or a cab wasn't an option. We were looking at a 16 block walk or so. Thre were car shows on the stip with wheels spinning. The women were dress to kill no matter how cool it was. After about block number 12 or so, me and John switched routes. We said the hell with The MAW party and went over to The 3 Degrees Party. We met up with the 3 Degrees camp, including Mona Dee, Ed Dunn, Freddie, Alex, Priti, FLX and Monna. I got mixes from them so stay tuned to CHR.
That's my day in a nut shell. On the close of this trip I will share with you my thoughts on WMC and to whole atmosphere. I'm getting ready to head over to The Deep House Page Party. After all, I'm the opening act. Holla!
To be continued...
