This is the last day of the conference for me. Sunday went the same as the other days. I had to get up early in the morning preparing to go to a party that started at 12 noon. Quite unusual for someone who comes from a city that is known for it's night life. The DHP Party didn't start until around 2pm, with me still being the opening act. That went well because it gave me time to find some eats and to venture off to some other parties afterwards. This time there where no turntables (1200's) which I'm more accustomed to spinning with. I had to do an all cd set which I wasn't prepared for. Now I have alot of joints on cd but I bump wax when I can. Next after me was Sammy Rock from cyberjamz.com. I lefted and took my carry crate back to the hotel. Me and John came across this wing joint on Washington and had to stop. They have 25 flavors to choose from and I damn sure picked one of them.
Later we went back to The DHP Party and heard a bit of Timmy Richardson and met up with Glenn Underground. After that it was off to the chicagosoundsource.com party. Lego was spinning with Lou-Lou and Mark Grant playing precussion. The party was jammed packed. I saw Czarina finally. Also in the house was Fast Eddie, XL and Dave Sabat with others. After that, we were off again to The 3 Degrees joint. We caught the whole 3 Degrees camp with CHR's own, Mona Dee along with FLX, Julius The Mad Thinker, Ed Dunn, Priti Ghandi, Cassandra, Freddie, Alex, Monna and many more. Eventually a stop by JMJ, Frank Cano, Alerick T., and a performance by Women on Wax's Diviniti (Find A Way - Danny Krevit's Mix) took us through the night. That ended at 9pm so off for more eats. Next stop was The Unified Records party, with the live performances by Carla Prather, Reggie Hall Mr. A.L.I. & Pevan Everett. This place was double-sided with events on both sides. Vic Lavender was on the box, killing them with Africanism and some other cuts. There I met up with DJ Pope, DJ Oji, Mark Grant, Sadar Bahar, Boo Williams, Jamie 3:26, Czarina, Jozana, Kenny Ray and many more too numerous to name.
Now it is check out time. Here's my thoughts on the conference:
1. More and more dee jays including myself are spinning more cd's than wax. Will records become obsolete? Has technology replaced and taking away from the art form or has it made it better?
2. The conference is a good reference tool for networking. I met more people involved in this music over the weekend than ever before. I can see how CHR can benefit from the experience and how our presence will be the next time.
3. I heard so much music and went to so many parties that at times I became bored and exhausted with it. Whenever there was I quiet point at a party, like a dee jay playing a boring record or turning the sounds down, I was ready to go. The energy has to say up to keep my interest. There were so many parties going on that I don't need to hear anymore music for days.
4. Most people were cool to met. They were welcoming and friendly. There were business cards and cd's exchanged, which helps because alot of times you don't have the time to sit back and socialize.
Feel free to add you comments and thoughts. If you went to the WMC tell us about your experience as well.
